This is a second edition of  Critical and Historical Essays: Contributed to the Edinburgh Review by Thomas Babington Macaulay, published by Longman, Brown, Green and Longmans in 1843.

The set is in Very Good+ condition with no inscriptions.

A beautiful three volume set of these famous and remarkable essays. Each are bound in lovely full tree calf with five riased bands to spine, as well as lovely crisp red and grean leather and gilt title labels to spines. Each compartment has gilt decoration. The top edges of volumes I & II are ever-so-slightly chipped. There are lovely embossed decorative gilt borders to the front and rear boards of each volume. The bindings are rather handsome and in good strong condition. The page edges are triple marbled. Internally, there are crisp marbled endpapers to the front and rear of each. The reverse of the free endpapers, blanks, and the first and last couple of leaves, have some light patchy foxing. The contents of each have the odd scattered lightly foxed spot, else main body of the contents of each are in superb crisp, and probably unread condition throughout.
